Coming for Dinner, Staying for Breakfast (#14)

Welcome to Staying for Breakfast, Coming for Dinner's newsletter.

Happy 2006! I hope you all had a happy holiday season, filled with good food and company, and that your new year is off to a great start. I was back East cooking and having a great time with my family over the holidays, and got all kinds of great new kitchen gear - a new, super-sharp Chinese chef's knife from Santa, a no-shit panini grill from my sister and her husband, fancy spices from my friend Lisa in England, an Anthony Bourdain cookbook from my friend Jim, and a totally rock n' roll Johnny Cash print from my brother.

I know what you're saying - enough already and gimee the recipes. Alright, alright. We all know what next weekend is, right? Yep - Super Bowl XL. Time to throw a party. In that the Patriots aren't in it this year, it just means we're one week closer to the start of baseball season. But having gone to college in Pennsylvania, and spending a bunch of time in Pittsburgh, I can happily get behind the Steelers. Not to mention it's the town that gave us the most holy of holy "Almost Famous" Primanti Brothers' Sandwich. Awesome.

SUPER BOWL PARTY:
The Super Bowl's always a great opportunity to have a bunch of friends over, even if you're not the biggest football fan in the world. Break out some beers, have some snacks, and watch the game, expensive commercials, and aging rockers.

Chili
Always a crowd pleaser, and something you can make in advance so you don't miss any of the game.

Cabin BBQ Sauce
What? Even the East Coast has been fairly snow free. Fire up the grill and BBQ up some ribs...

Pizza / Calzones
Don't even *think* about ordering your pizza out - make the dough the night before, and have homemade pizza during the game.

T-minus 61 days until baseball starts...
